Buckeye candies, featuring peanut butter fudge dipped in chocolate to resemble the nut of an Ohio buckeye tree, were created in 1964 by Ohio resident Gail Tabor. While dipping peanut butter balls, she left a small circle of peanut butter exposed, mimicking the look of the inedible nut.
